Gayle Massenburg Pumphrey, died on Sunday, June 7, at her home in Caldwell. She was a lifelong resident of Montclair until 2005.
A memorial celebration will be held on Thursday, June 18, at 7:30 p.m., in Union Congregational Church, 176 Cooper Ave., Montclair. Visiting will be from 12 to 4 p.m., on Thursday in Hugh M. Moriarty Funeral Home, 76 Park St., Montclair.
She graduated from Montclair High School in 1971, and attended Radford College in Radford, Va.
Mrs. Pumphrey can be remembered for her work at Union Congregational Church nursery school where she taught for 11 years. She also worked for many years at Montclair's Baby Boom and was a volunteer at Toni's Kitchen.
Mrs. Pumphrey was predeceased by her mother and stepfather, Lori and Bob Orr; and her father-in-law, Jack Pumphrey Sr. She is survived by her husband of 33 years, Jack "Jay" Pumphrey Jr.; her daughters, Jaime Lynn and Jacqueline Gardner; her father, Judge Edgar A. Massenburg and his wife Patricia; her sister, Sheri Massenburg and her husband Michael Guscott; her brother, Bob Orr and his wife Sharon; her sister, Sally Hart; her sister, Anne Harris; her brother, Robert Harris and his wife Trisha; her mother-in-law, Norma Pumphrey; and her sisters-in-law, Janet Pumphrey, and Meg Wycoff and her husband John.
